Our friend and ACAA member Djamal Bouzida passed away on June 1, 2014 in San Diego, California. He was born on November 21, 1962 in Algeria. He received a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University and moved to Boston where he was a post-doctoral fellow in biomedical engineering at Boston University. He moved to San Diego in 1995 and worked for Agouron for 14 years before joining Visionary Pharmaceuticals in 2011.
Djamal was very instrumental in the first electronic forum in the world that focused on Amazigh language, history and culture. It was Amazigh-Net and Djamal started it on July 15, 1992 as a simple mail exploder on his personal workstation at Boston University. Within a few months and thanks to the support of ACAA members, membership guidelines were written and the membership reached 100 within a few months. (See Amazigh Voice, Vol. 3. No. 2 November 1994). He remained its moderator for many years.
We morn his loss and take great comfort in knowing that his soul is alive and well and has passed to another realm. His obituary can be found on http://www.obitsforlife.com/obituary/927138/Bouzida-Djamal.php
Please visit and leave a sympathy message for the family or light a candle in his memory.
Below is a poem that Djamal published in The Amazigh Voice.
