 Decharge Interdite ACCA-Region 2 is pleased to announce the projection of a short documentary "DECHARGE INTERDITE " (Dumping Prohibited) a 26 min documentary by Tahar Yami. The documentary addresses the issue of wild trash dumping in Kabylie. In the last years unregulated and polluting dumps have reached a critical point. This is Tahar's attempt at sounding the alarm. The documentary has been screened at the 2011 Amazigh Film Festival in Tizi-Wezzu, Algeria and was given the Jury's Special Prize in the category Amazigh Panorama. Tahar Yami is an idependent photorapher and video author and this documentary is his first. Prior to this Tahar worked for La Maison de la Culture in Tizi-Wezzu, the AJBF association in Paris and BRTV.  Sofiane (left) and one of his colleagues on the set of RAPT (right) Sofiane Bellali is a young Kabyl director who is interested in making action films. RAPT (Kidnapping) is his first of the kind and tells the story of the kidnapping of the son of a wealthy Kabyl. It is not at all surprising that the first Kabyl action film is about kidnapping because the region has recently fallen victim to this sort of crime, unfortunately. Just in the last month two separate such incidents happened: a seventy year old man was kidnapped in Amechras and recently released (without rasom), but another a much younger person named Mourad Bilek, the son of operator of the French car maker Renault dealership in Algeria. The latter has not yet been released. Sofiane is a very young and energetic video aficionado from Bughni (near Tizi-Wezzu) who put together a team of young actors and video producers who just went ahead and di something they liked. They did not come out of a prestegious film school or anything like that, they simply had a passion. Most of the team members are from the Bughni area. The film RAPT was shown at a film festival in Tunis this year but has not yet been released publicly. Sofiane and his team of video producers and actors should be encouraged to push even further and bring Kabyl and Amazigh cinema in general in to this unchartered territory and give Amazigh art and artists a chance to develop and excel for the benefit of Imazighen and all humanity. Join the director of this short story to find out about a simple life that still exists in the high reaches of the Djurdjura mountains.  It is our great pleasure to announce the ACAA sponsorship to the 3rd annual celebration of the Los Angeles Amazigh Film Festival that will take place on October 30th at the Barnsdall Theatre and Art Gallery in LA (see enclosed press release for more details). The Los Angeles Amazigh Film Festival (LAAF) celebrates its 3rd year under the leadership of its founder Helene Hagan, a long time proud ACAA member, a fierce advocate of the Amazigh culture and the President and founder of Tazzla Institute for Cultural Diversity, a non-profit, 501c(3) California charitable and educational organization that was founded in 1993. Some of its activities can be viewed on its web site at www.tazzla.org. In 2007, Tazzla Institute initiated a new project in keeping with its commitment to educate American audiences about the Amazigh (Berber) culture. The Festival, sponsored by the Department of Cultural Affairs, city of Los Angeles, the Amazigh Cultural Association in America (ACAA), and the Hagan Law Firm of Palo Alto and Los Angeles is rich in content and some of the major events that will take place are summarized below: 1. 4. Asshak: Tales of the Sahara” a film (110 minutes) by U. Koche, Catpics Productions, in Tamashek with English sub-titles. The film was made possible by the collaboration of Tuaregs of Northern Niger. 5. A Concert of traditional Amazigh music of the High Atlas of Morocco by two talented musicians, AZA performers Fattah Abbou and Mohamed Aoualou, North African band from Santa Cruz. The main speakers will be Helene Hagan (President of Tazzla Institute and Organizer of the Festival) introducing the event, and Aomar Benslimane (President of ACAA) speaking on ACAA contribution to the Amazigh culture over the years and its strong support to the Amazigh film festival and its intent to strengthen its commitment with Tazzla Institute for the purpose of educating the American audience on the Amazigh culture and finally Rachid Bouksim, Director of the Issi N’Ourgh Film Festival of Agadir, Morocco who will speak about the Amazigh Cinematography of Morocco An ACAA booth will be available that will display some of the major publications that ACAA published or helped publish over the years (books, magazines, CDs, card games etc…). Let’s show our support to the festival by gathering there over that week end. It will be a nice week end to support the festival, visit the west coast and re-connect our fellow imazighen of the west coast. This is a unique and rich program of film, food and music celebrating the AMAZIGH culture of North Africa and the Sahara. This festival is organized by the Tazzla Institute for Cultural Diversity (www.tazzla.org) and co-sponsored by the Amazigh Cultural Association in America.  English version follows The Road Behind, The Road Ahead is a new documentary by aspiring artist Hacene Zennia. It was just released on DVD and can be purchased online (see below). The documentary has already been shown at the 2008 Los Angeles Amazigh Film Festival and at the 2008 Tafsut commemoration by ACAA, in New Jersey. |
